Entertaining Women Blogiversary and GIVEAWAY!!!

"First things first...We are truly blessed to have the means to set a pretty table and invite our friends to join us for good food and fellowship. I am mindful that many are not so fortunate. My daughter has a passion for the work of the Food Bank. As a singer-songwriter, she has written and recorded a song that is the anthem for the world wide Crop Hunger Walk project. Her song, "Raise Your Voice" is featured in their video. I've included a link in the side margin of my blog. I hope that it will encourage you to support projects in your community that contribute to the effort to overcome hunger.

Happy Birthday to Entertaining Women!  To celebrate my first year of blogging, I want to GIVEAWAY something from my personal collection.  One of you will be the winner of the luncheon plates that I used in my tablescape today.  My table was set for four, but the winner will receive a set of 12 of these antique Theodore Haviland, Limoges France luncheon plates.  I'll share instructions for entering to win at the end of my post.

It. Is. So. Dang. Hot.  This is the time of year that I often choose to stay home where it's nice and cool.  That said, I still like to spend time with my dear friends, so today I've invited three of them to share lunch with me.

If you've spent any time at all in my little corner of blog world, I'm fairly certain that you knew that because I was preparing for a small group of four, I would choose to create my tablescape at the game table in the living room.  Today I've switched out the usual Minton Spidel high back game chairs for the McGuire rattan chairs.  I thought that they were more in keeping with a dainty summerscape.  I may leave them here for a while; they kind of say "Summer" to me.

The table is anchored with a dainty cotton tablecloth sprinkled with lovely little violets.  I bought this on eBay for $6.00!  It had ribbons sewn into the cloth that when ruched, create a scalloped effect...

...I layered it over one of my white matelassé cloths (also an eBay purchase) to emphasize the scallops and the violet trim.

A quick trip to my personal florist, Sam's, yielded an inexpensive bundle of hot pink spray roses, and a mixed bouquet for the centerpiece.  The amethyst pedestal bowl is a Hobby Lobby find...

The delicate Royal Albert creamer and sugar belonged to my mama.  I didn't even fill them; I just liked them on the table.

The individual salt and peppers are McKenzie - Childs.  I'm still working on my collection.  They are interesting miniature works of art that serve a practical purpose. They were perfect for today's girly- girl table.

I waffled back and forth between different napkins for today.  I tried assorted pinks and greens, but ultimately, I couldn't resist the elegance and texture of these wonderful antique linen cutwork napkins that belonged to our dear Nana.  I've gathered them into the Coalport, "Countryware" napkin rings.  For someone who doesn't often use napkin rings, I've been using these a lot lately.

The charger plate is Bordallo Pinheiro, "Cabbage Leaf". I've collected them from eBay and the occasional estate sale.  They are wonderfully versatile.  I sometimes "co-op" these with several friends.  Together, we can serve a large number of guests.  The service plate is actually a Royal Doulton, "Lowestoft" dinner plate, also an eBay acquisition.  Tip:  I have a "saved search" set on "My eBay" page for "Plates, set of 12".  I'm generally interested in buying sets of plates...enough to set a table.  When new auctions come on line with this description, eBay sends me an email telling me what's new.  It saves time and keeps me informed. Give it a try!

The vintage Theodore Haviland, Limoges France luncheon plate was the inspiration piece for my design today.  I wanted you to see my blogiversary giveaway up close and personal because I hope that you'll fall in love with it!  I adore the beautiful embossing on the scalloped rim.  The tiny pink and lavender floral motif is typical of numerous Haviland patterns.  I am an enthusiastic advocate for luncheon plates.  They exponentially expand the opportunities for mixing and matching.  Most dinner plates can be used as chargers when paired with luncheon plates.  Just imagine the possibilites!

I found a large service of the gold-tone bamboo handle flatware at a garage sale.  This is the first time that I've used it.  I don't know the maker, but it has a nice weight and balance.

My girly-girl table was just begging for lots of pink and green.  The Waterford Simply "Green", another eBay goodie, paired perfectly with the hot pink Italian crystal goblet.  I found the hot pink stems at Marshall's on a recent trip to Scottsdale, Arizona.  I've recently discovered that we have two Marshall's in our city.  I've searched for more of these, but to no avail, so far.  If you happen to come across any and you don't need them for yourself, I'd love it if you would let me know.  They were a hit with my guests today...such a yummy color!

The table is ready...

...Wine, iced tea, and water are waiting in the kitchen...

Tomato Bisque soup is warming on the stove top, waiting to be served in Haviland, "Ranson" cream soups.  Hot bread is baking in the oven and will be served in our sweet Nana's antique silver roll basket.  A main course of chicken salad and avocado served on a bed of lettuce is just light enough for a hot summer day.  Dessert will be a raspberry sponge cake pyramid presented with fresh berries and peaches in Val St. Lambert crystal bowls.

I'm ready to roll...

The house is spit-spot, and I'm eager for my dear friends to ring the bell.  I'm excited to tell them about the blogiversary giveaway.  The  instructions follow just below.  I hope that you'll sign up for a chance to win the set of 12 luncheon plates.

Here's how you can enter:
1. Become an official follower of Entertaining Women. Then leave me a comment to tell me that you're a new follower!! You can also leave a comment telling me that you're already a follower.

2.  For a second chance to win, leave me a comment telling me your first thought about how you would use the Theodore Haviland, Limoges, France luncheon on your table.

I'll draw and announce the winner on Tuesday, July 19.  Good luck!  I think that the winner is going to enjoy using the plates for many years.  I can hardly wait to see how they'll look on your table, if you're the winner!

  4. Let's see....I would use the Haviland Limoges French luncheon plates as you did for a girly luncheon, a bridal or baby shower. I can see them in a beautiful setting on my porch in the summer for the ladies luncheon that I have each year for my mother and her friends.

    Again, congrats on your anniversary.

You are certainly giving a most generous gift in honor of your blog-aversary! Thank you from my heart just for the hope of winning this set!

Cherry Kay, this table is so beautiful I don't know where to start. I do love the green Waterford and the pink Italian goblets.. they add so much sparkle to the table. Your china choices are fabulous as each plate plays off of the other. The cutwork napkins were a fabulous choice.. Congrats on another winning table! I am sure your friends felt pampered and very special. Many blessings, marlis

  9. I am follower too.. have been forever..
Now to how I would use them. Well I love to mix pink and gray! So I would put down my cherished pink damask tablecloth given to me after our house fire by my dear friend Sarah. Then I would I would start with my lenox snowlily plates and layer the luncheon plates on top. As you said, dinner plates make great chargers! Snowlily has a bit of gray around the edges.. Then would come the luscious Haviland! On top, some pink depression glass salads or bowls...certainly something pink. Silver for the utensils, probably silver for the goblets, some pink roses for the centerpiece, crystal salt and peppers, Oh I can see this table unfolding so beautifully. And then I see the true gems at the table, you and my friends. Thanks for the chance!

  35. Happy Blog Anniversary!!!!!!!!!

As always, I'm in love with your table!!!

    1. I've been a follower and have thoroughly enjoyed it!

    2. FANTASY--Pure and simple fantasy is what I'd use those gorgeous limoges for. They are timeless pieces of fantasy, transporting me, and anyone lucky enough to dine on them with me if I won them, to another era.

    Another time.

    A genteel time.

A time of grace and elegance.

A time where immense attention to detail was paid to delicate, beautiful things.

A time where friends and family gathered for the most fantastical celebrations.

When community wasn't just a fantasy, but a reality.

The sweet, delicate and evocative beauty of those plates would serve as a benison, a declarative call to joy for all the beloved guests gathered around.

The plates would be a benediction, an issuing forth of all things bright and beautiful in the world.

The plates would be a fulcrum, a magical center around which we'd share, truly be a COMMUNITY.

    Such loveliness begats more loveliness.

Off the top of my head after a very hot (the air conditioning does not work well in our casa and it's in the 90s here) and sleepless night I am rambling on about the pure beauty of these plates.

But, off the top of my head usually means it's the most sincere verbal gesture from my heart--my gut instinct, the truth.

So, last but not least, these plates would be the focal point of a table that would beckon love...a table that would be so gorgeous that we would take extra time to thank our Lord and Savior for the blessing of fellowship and the blessing of immense beauty that we have been given.

    Sorry for the rambling/hugs/blessings,
    Lana

  36. Cherry Kay, Congrats on your first year! You have shown us many lovely things, given us wonderful ideas, and inspired us with your creativity and talent!! I have been a follower, and I will continue to be in awe of your amazing tablescapes. That being said, your table is above is simply divine. What a delight for your guests! You have such a gift for taking a handful of flowers and turning them into a beautiful centerpiece, so professional. I am swooning over your china. I, too, have a set of the Bordello--it's so versatile for so many occasions. The crystal you chose is magnificent, and it is all so perfectly wonderful together. Now, I will leave another comment about your giveaway. Thanks so much for sharing your gifts with us.

  37. Hi Cherry Kay, I'm back talking about your giveaway. I, too, collect limoge luncheon plates, but unfortunately I do not have any more of one kind than six. Some are very similar to yours. If I won them, you can be assured that they would be loved and treasured throughout the years. My love of china developed from my aunt and my mother, who you've probably read about at some point. I am the only one left in our extended family who will host the gatherings. My table can seat 12, and oh how wonderful it would be to use these gorgeous limoge luncheon plates for this! I can also see them in the future, for my daughter's and possibly daughter-in-law's bridal luncheons and hopefully one day a baby shower! I would use them with some of the pieces I inherited from my sweet mother, and grandmother. They would be passed down (hopefully not any time soon) for the next generation to love. Anyway, thanks for considering me, thanks for your kind giveaway of these gorgeous heirlooms.

  38. What a gorgeous table!!! And cool, I'm sure(I don't like the heat either!!). The centerpiece is perfect with the beautiful place settings! VERY girlie and pretty. Luncheon sounds delicious-lucky girlfriends! Those pink glasses are very pretty. I was just in TJM and didn't see anything like those (we don't get really great stuff here usually).

I'm a new "official" follower, but visit every TT that I log on for!

  39. Now for the way I would use these beautiful dishes. Luncheon plates for luncheon sounds appropriate. I love the delicate limoges patterns and only have a very few pieces. My sister has a wonderful friend who is having health issues in her family and we "do lunch" sometimes. I am planning a luncheon and these would be perfect with Royal Albert Old Country Garden plates as charges and other R.A. patterns that I have. And that would only be the FIRST occasion that I would use them for!

Thank you for the opportunity to enter your contest for these beautiful dishes. I don't know how you can part with them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh, those goblets are 2die4 and go perfectly with your floral arrangement. I like flowers from Sam's and Costco as well. I will look at our local store to see if I can find more goblets for you. I was also noticing the large console table against the wall. How nice and very generous of you to give away the china to some lucky person.

Why yes I am a follower of yours! We are expecting our first granddaughter (after three precious grandsons). My other daughters and I are going to through the mother (my oldest daughter) a suprise shower for very close relatives. 44. Thanks for the great shopping tips! Your table is lovely; what a great setting for a girls' luncheon. The menu you chose sounded so tasty.

I love the look of your Royal Doulton dinner plate on the Cabbage Leaf charger. The Haviland looks perfect on top; are you sure you want to part with these? I must say that I love the pop of the hot pink goblets. I will look for them for you, although our Marshall's has a very poor selection of glasses.

I would pair those Haviland plates with a dinner plate I recently acquired which has a pink and white edging.

Congratulations on your anniversary! I hope you next year is as much fun for you; I know we, your readers, will be having fun visiting!

  45. Hi Cherry Kay,

I'm now an official follower on your blog. I thought I had already signed on to follow, as I always love to look at your tablescapes, but apparently I was mistaken. Some days I have trouble keeping up :) Thanks so much for visiting my July 4th tablescape and taking time to leave a comment. You always leave such thoughtful comments, and I do appreciate them! I haven't been blogging for so very long, and sometimes wonder if I'm connecting to anyone out there. I'm gaining followers very slowly, but I keep plugging away. I write about what interests me and hope the posts will be seen by others with similar interests.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the Fourth of July tablescape. I've been waiting for a chance to use the pewter treasures. I don't have pewter candlesticks, but I thought the brass worked out just fine. Have a great weekend!

  48. Hi Cherry Kay,

What a generous giveaway you are having and Happy Blogaversary! This table is really beautiful, as yours always are. There is so much to love about this table. I adore the sweet tablecloth (have loved violets since I was a little girl), and your creamer and suger are so pretty and unique. The flowers remind of thistle flowers like they have in Scotland. The small salt and peppers really are little works of art, and the goblets pair beautifully together. Last, but not least, the plates are beautiful. I love the Royal Doulton dinner plates, and the Limoges are just wonderful!! I really love Limoges, but don't have any of my own.

If I won the giveaway, I would use our cut-work tablecloth similar to your lovely napkins, or an ivory lace tablecloth; both given to us by my husband's grandmother. I would use our crystal stemware, or some pink goblets we have, and the sterling flatware we were recently given by my MIL. I have some napkins with crocheted lace that I might use, or might use my pink damask napkins. It's fun to create the table in my head :) Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win this very thoughtful gift!

    Hugs,

    Denise

You have an incredible collection of tableware and linens. Please enter me in the drawing for the beautiful Haviland plates. I would treasure them. Thank you.

  55. Sharing my first thought of how I would use the Haviland plates is very easy. I have been looking for some months for plates for a very special table that I am planning in honor of a dear friend. My friend and I discovered that we have a common childhood connection to and love for Sweetpeas. I found some incredible silk Sweetpeas that are so realistic. The flowers are a lovely pale lavendar and I will make the centerpiece using them, and then the arrangement will be a surprise gift for my friend. I have been searching for lovely feminine plates with delicate flowers in a lavender shade. I think that your plates would be perfect and winning them would be a joy! Thank you

The ruched, scalloped effect on your tablecloth is just darling & your SAM'S flower arrangement is GORGEOUS!

Thanks for the tip about how you find so many wonderful items on Ebay. I will try doing that, too.
The vintage Theodore Haviland/ Limoges luncheon plates are sooo delicate & pretty looking. What a wonderful blogaversary give-away! Congratulations on 1 full year of sharing some spectacular tablescapes.

I can't believe I hadn't signed in to be a follower until just now.

  68. I have the same Bordallo Pinheiro, "Cabbage Leaf" plates that you have, so if I win, I'd probably try to pair the luncheon plates with them, exactly as you have. I just ♥♥♥ pink & green together!

New follower! I've been visiting your blog for months now... your pictures inspired me to get my first set of sterling flatware - Francis 1st and now I'm lemming some Waterford stemware. You do such a great job of using colors and textures to invoke a 'mood' for the table that I saved your blog in my favorites and come here for inspiration every time I'm setting my table for a special occasion. Thanks for sharing your talent and Congratulations on your 1st blogiversary! I'm excited to become an official follower today!

  71. Oh and congrats on your 1 year annivesary! the first thing I thought of when I saw the beautiful delicate pattern of the dishes was a Mother's Day luncheon. But, a girl's lunch outside on the patio with fresh from the garden flowers would be so pretty with these dishes.

  75. I just realized that there is a chance for a second entry (and no problem about the first comment :)) sooooo, how would I use these delicate pink floral plates?

These would be PERFECT for the special ladies lunch I've planned for next month where my mom will be 'chief guest'. My parents live overseas and this is the first time they'll visit us in eight years. We just moved into our first house (!!) and the lunch will be a great way for my mom to meet all my friends and enjoy one of the last few weeks of Seattle summer in our sunroom type dining area. The table will be set in pink with a touch of gold (my mom's favorite colors)and these beautiful plates will fit right in!! Thanks for this second chance to win!

  77. Oh my! All these pretty colors! I'm sorry I missed the pink stems from Marshall's but I do have some similarly-colored vintage pink footed water glasses that I found many years ago. I have looked long and hard for more in that shade (most vintage pink glass is a sort of carnation pink) but haven't had much luck. Here's hoping we both have luck finishing our sets!
