Mother's Day Jewel, 2013

First things first...We are truly blessed to have the means to set a pretty table and invite our friends to join us for good food and fellowship. I am mindful that many are not so fortunate. My daughter has a passion for the work of the Food Bank. As a singer-songwriter, she has written and recorded a song that is the anthem for the world wide Crop Hunger Walk project. Her song, "Raise Your Voice" is featured in their video. I've included a link in the side margin of my blog. I hope that it will encourage you to support projects in your community that contribute to the effort to overcome hunger.

I hope that you had a blessed and peaceful Mother's Day surrounded by your precious family.  After church, Sweet Mister and I were happy to welcome KC, David, and Beatrice Emaline, and David's parents to our table.  It was a lovely Spring day, and we lingered and visited over a simple luncheon of pork tenderloin, baked potatoes, green bean casserole, salad, and hot bread.  Much time was spent gazing with loving eyes at our almost 8 months old, Honey Bee.

A sun-kissed table dressed in feminine creams and pinks greeted our guests.

No tablecloth today...I used a lovely old set of Madeira linen placemats, found at an estate sale, which worked well with some of Nana's antique linen napkins.  The silver is my wedding flatware, Reed & Barton Grande Renaissance.

Nary a charger plate in sight, we dined on the Copeland Spode Jewel dinner plate...so lady-like and just right for a Mother's Day celebration.

The Copeland Spode Jewel "Heath & Rose" accent plate was removed during lunch and returned for our dessert of fresh peach pie a la mode.

"Jewel" is the name of the 'blank' for this plate.  You might be more familiar with the popular Spode Jewel "Billingsley Rose"....the same blank with a different transfer design.  Spode did a number of variations for the Jewel blank.

It always reminds me of lace, and I adore the scalloped edge.

A pair of Hobby Lobby jardinieres held simple pots of hot pink Azaleas from the grocery store.

My loyal stand-bys, the Val St. Lambert crystal candlesticks added much desired reflective value.
The Wedgwood Patrician tureen and under plate made a regal centerpiece...(rather "queen motherish", don't you think?)...

...all resting on our dear Nana's antique Italian Reticulated Lace runner.

Ready and waiting for our guests.

Iced tea or water was served in the Waterford Simply Pink goblet.  The Tiffin Elyse goblet was available for wine.

The buffet was simply dressed with another pair of Azaleas in silver champagne buckets.

A quartet of crystal decanters, resting at each corner of the table, held fresh water.  I want my guests to be able to easily refill their glasses during our meal.

Beatrice's chair is waiting at her placesetting between her mama and daddy.  I like to think that including her at the table from the beginning of her life will have a positive effect on her in later years.  Some day many of these things will belong to her and to her cousins, my precious grandsons.

My family gathered around our table for a delicious lunch and delightful conversation...I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day!  I hope that you had a glorious day, too!

Wednesday is the 62nd edition of Cuisine Kathleen's meme, "Let's Dish".  I'm excited to be a charter member.  Pop over (pun intended for the Chef Supreme Kathleen) and join the fun!

Lots of great ideas to be gathered when you visit Yvonne at Stone Gable for Tutorials, Tips, & Tidbits.  Don't waste another moment...hurry on over!

Thank you, yet again, to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for hosting her magical meme,  "Tablescape Thursday."   Hop on over and check out the myriad of marvelous tablescape designs, after 10:00 AM on Thursdays.  You'll be glad that you made the trip...it's a wonderful adventure.

May...lots of entertaining on the horizon.  How about you?  With thankfulness for her dedication and efforts, I'm joining the multi-talented Tablescaper for her fabulous meme  Seasonal Sunday.  Hope to see you there!

You can check out KC's music at www.kcclifford.com, on iTunes, and on YouTube.  I hope that you'll take a few minutes and give her a listen.  You'll also enjoy reading back through her blog on this site.  The girl can really write!  Her latest CD is called "The Tag Hollow Sessions""  It is available on iTunes or through her website.  I hope that you'll give her music a chance.  I know that I have zero objectivity where she is concerned, but I think that you'll fall in love with her music and her!

  1. Cherry Kay, I love the simplicity of this table. Such beautiful china, love the rims...and the pink crystal was made for those plates!
I can't believe Beatrice Emaline is almost 8 months, seems like she was just born.
    Have a wonderful week...

  2. Cherry Kay - your table looks simply magical! The beautiful color of the azaleas and crystal against the white is so lovely. Seeing your Nana's pieces always make me swoon and this time is no exception. I agree that children should be brought up with fine things and allowed to participate in "dining" on these special occasions and I am sure that everyone enjoyed dining at this table!!

  3. Cherry Kay, I know this was a very happy Mother's Day for you! Your table is lovely. I love the simplicity and care with which you chose each piece. I have a question. Beatrice Emaline's high chair is a pretty one and I am wondering if you purchased it recently and if so where? I need to find one for our little 6 month old grandson to keep at our house for family dinners also! Thank you so much!

  6. What a stunning table, Cherry Kay. All the mothers must have been in heaven sitting in such loveliness.
I love the azaleas, I just bought a pot for a friend today. The china is simply beautiful! I think you're right, children are great when they grow up sitting and using beautiful things at the dinner table, such as these. Glad you had a wonderful Mom's Day. Big hugs,

  7. If this doesn't say Mother's Day Delight, I don't know what does!!! It's gorgeous, Cherry Kay! And I agree with you 1000% that when children are exposed to lovely settings and "proper" tables from a young age, they will learn to enjoy and appreciate it much more. They may not always understand the protocol, but they at least get the exposure.

I could just eat those dishes! They are SO pretty! They are the ultimate in femininity!!!

You had this table looking just the way it should to celebrate the wonder of motherhood! Your menu was perfect, too!!!!!! (I did peach cobbler. We were thinking along the same lines!)

  10. Belated Happy Mother's Day to you! I can see that your day was wonderful. So glad you got to spend it with your precious doll. I pinned the china and the tureen. I am with you, the china reminds me of lace. And I love lace! The pink crystal dances across that table like jewels. Oh, I just love this table. I know it's all the lace. Which brings me to the exquisite runner. It is stunning. Thank you for sharing your special moments with us. xo marlis

  12. What a special table you set for your sweet family, Cherry Kay! The Copeland Spode Jewel edges echo the reticulated lace runner beautifully. You have so many gorgeous pieces...LOVE the pink stemware!... & I'm always thrilled when you share them along with their history.

How wonderful that Beatrice Emaline's chair was included at the table. I'm sure she was the center of attention!

I smiled to think that "Honey Bee" will someday be able to say "this belonged to my dear Grandma CK"

Thank you for inviting us to share your table.

    fondly,
    Rett

  14. Beautiful table! I love the pretty detail on the china! I think it's so sweet to include the baby! We always included our children from the time they were infants and they knew how to behave at the table. Whereas other friends and family would go out to eat and leave their children at home because they misbehaved!

  15. The table runner caught my eye immediately, that is gorgeous! I know you had a special day at your beautiful pink and cream table, the Waterford pink goblets are breath taking. I agree with the high chair at the table, we do that too. My mother raised me by insisting on dinner in the dining room for special occasions, even if I was dining on a peanut butter sandwich! My children were raised that way too, Sunday dinner was always in the dining room and now that they are grown, they insist on it! So on with the next generation! Beautifully set tables and enjoyable family meals make meal time special, relaxed, and create great memories. Thank you for sharing yours,
    Jenna

  17. Cherry Kay...GORGEOUS!!! I do not have enough words to say how much I absolutely LOVE this table...that Spode china..I picked it out for my fine china when I was getting married in 1973..loved it..and the jewelry store owner was a little old lady..she talked me out of choosing it because she said eggs would get stuck in the raised decorations..LOL can't believe I listened to her!!! so when I saw your lovely, lovely table the memories flooded back of how this china was my first choice years ago..it is just so beautiful..don't know that I have ever seen a table set with these plates..and I also have a smaller tureen like yours that I use a lot..and that baby girl will be a fortunate young lady one day to inherit your beautiful things...I so much enjoyed your post...
    Love, Mona

  18. It must have been a lovely time, Cherry Kay. Everything is so fresh, simple and elegant, but I'm sure the best centrepiece was your new granddaughter.

  19. Francie, I wish that I could give you better information about the high chair. It is indeed precious. It was a gift from a friend who had used it for her daughter. Her daughter is now 17 years old. I have looked recently online at highchairs for KC and David's house, but I didn't see anything quite like mine. I wonder what you might find if you googled something like convertible junior chair? Good hunting! Cherry Kay
