"First things first...We are truly blessed to have the means to set a pretty table and invite our friends to join us for good food and fellowship. I am mindful that many are not so fortunate. My daughter has a passion for the work of the Food Bank. As a singer-songwriter, she has written and recorded a song that is the anthem for the world wide Crop Hunger Walk project. Her song, "Raise Your Voice" is featured in their video. I've included a link in the side margin of my blog. During this beautiful season when we celebrate harvest and Thanksgiving, I hope that it will encourage you to support projects in your community that contribute to the effort to overcome hunger.
I've been blogging for sixteen months now, and tonight is my first pretend tablescape. Once I set it up, Sweet Mister and I decided that perhaps we'd invite friends to watch our alma mater's game on Saturday evening and have a casual supper at half time. You know me, I hate to see a good table go to waste! I'm warming up to Fall a week at a time, and tonight I added a bit more traditional Autumn color to my design.
I wanted it to keep things more casual this week. The bare wood of our old Duncan Phyfe mahogany table set the tone.
For my centerpiece, the faux Michael's pumpkins are making an encore appearance...
...They are joined by a pair of Luneville, "Louis XV" tureens, and my collection of antique Barley Twist candlesticks. All of them were purchased through eBay.
I adore the apple finials and the handles on these on French faience pieces. The candlesticks bring wonderful warmth and movement to the table. Yes, I know that the candle is crooked...it's a faux table...I'll fix it before the guests arrive. LOL.
I don't often use placemats, but I really like these hard shell, cork back Pimpernell Placemats, a thank you gift from friends many years ago. The flatware is our everyday Towle, "Antique Bead" stainless steel.
The Luneville, "Louis XV" dinner plate is a nice frame for the Bordallo Pinheiro, "Leaf Plate."
I adore plaids, stripes, polka dots...all kinds of patterns. The soft and thick plaid napkins were a great find at an estate sale...12 napkins for $1.00! Heck yes I bought them.
As a finishing touch, I used the chunky green goblet, by Colony or Viking. I've had them so long that I can't remember. They were originally purchased to compliment the Spode "Christmas Tree."
I liked the punch of color that the black amethyst goblet added. They were another eBay acquisition, and I don't have a clue who made them. Some day I hope to find more of them...it could happen, yes it could.
Because so many of you inquire and comment about the crystal cabinets...
...I shot a few close-ups, which I hope will please you.
Well, that's the 25-cent tour. Wonder what I'll serve...I think that vegetable beef stew and corn bread might just hit the spot! If you're up for an evening of football and fellowship, you're welcome to join us.
Thank you, yet again, to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for hosting her magical meme, TABLESCAPE THURSDAY. I'll be linking my post to "Tablescape Thursday." Hop on over and check out the myriad of marvelous tablescape designs, after 9:00 pm on Wednesdays. You'll be glad that you made the trip...it's a wonderful adventure.
When I think of Fall, I think sunlit mornings and close friends gathered at my table. How about you? With thankfulness for her dedication and efforts, I'm joining the multi-talented Tablescaper for her fabulous meme SEASONAL SUNDAY. Hope to see you there!

Heck, yes, I'd buy those napkins for $1, too! Great colors for Fall, Winter, or Christmas! Amazing that this is your first "faux" tablescape, but I'm glad you did it.

Now, THAT'S a leaf plate!!! I want to stand up and cheer for that plate!!! It almost has a bowl-like quality about it which makes it extra versatile. I love the detailing in it! As for the napkins, Miss Cherry Kay....I mentioned your incredible estate sale abilities in my blog post this week! I added a link, so people will be able to come straight here to see exactly what I'm talking about!!! :-) $1 for 12 napkins...that's got to be a record!!! I hate to see a good table go to waste, too. I'm having a girls night in tomorrow night with a table I'm still working on tonight at a reader's request. I just can't stand the thought of putting a table together and then no one gets to enjoy it! You KNOW I'm loving those cabinets filled with crystal!!! Have a wonderful evening and an even better weekend!
ReplyDeleteCherry Kay, this table is so fallish! I love your centerpieces and am drooling over the barley twist candlesticks.. The open double twist pieces are wonderful. The plates compliment each other perfectly and those napkins,, well they are the punch of color perfect for this table.. Great table.. i hope you use it! xo marlis
ReplyDeleteI am drooling over all your beautiful crystal!! I've admired those cabinets for some time, glad you posted a close up! Your "pretend" table is so cozy and inviting, wish I could join you! Great find on the napkins, and I'm happy to see you throw in some orange! Your french tureens are magnificent! Beautiful table!
ReplyDeleteGreat composition! The dinner sounds great, too.
ReplyDeleteA lovely table. Love the napkins and they really go well with the fall colors and of course, I love barley twist candlesticks. The only ones at Linderhof were made into lamps (sigh).
ReplyDeleteYou bet I'd buy them! I'll bet there'd be a queue of us! I bought a similar plaid cloth and 12 napkins, new, at a consignment store last year and I love them.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of setting a faux table and then turning it into a party!
Cherry Kay, your tables are always so inspiring. I love the plaid and the green goblets. It is so pretty to have the pumpkins as a centerpiece. (I once discovered that pumpkins will take the finish off an antique table if left there long enough!) Letting the bare wood on your table show is a wonderful look. Thank you for sharing this gorgeous table!

Well, I don't have to "pretend" to think your pretend table is lovely because I do. My favorite part (hands down) would be the tureens. I also think the twisted detailing on candlesticks and stands gives it a feeling of a stroll in an autumn forest.
ReplyDeleteLove the Tureens, and those napkins are a perfect Fall addition. Thanks so much for your sweet congrats!
ReplyDeleteFrancie, I'm glad to know about pumpkins on a wood surface...and extra glad that mine are faux. Thanks so much for stopping by; I'd love to see you join us with a blog of our own. Come visit any time. Cherry Kay

ReplyDeleteThat pair of tureens is just amazing. I am so glad you gave us a tour of the crystal cabinets! So pretty!!!
I am now following you on Pinterest. How fun. It just condenses the whole internet down to a manageable size. Have fun with it.
Everything is so elegant, but I think the plaid napkins are unmistakably casual. I noticed you have red in your carpet, too. Those tureens are gorgeous and make such a statement. I love your faux elements, and you have tricked the eye to believe ALL is real!
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty, pretty! Yes, I know what you mean about setting a faux table! You just need to invite people over, especially when everything looks this lovely. $1.00 for those napkins? You got a deal girl!

I was lucky enough to find 8 of those same stems at our local consignment shop last year. Mine weren't marked, either, and I'd love to have a set of 12! Thanks for sharing this pretty autumn table. You've given me some great ideas!
