First things first...We are truly blessed to have the means to set a pretty table and invite our friends to join us for good food and fellowship. I am mindful that many are not so fortunate. My daughter has a passion for the work of the Food Bank. As a singer-songwriter, she has written and recorded a song that is the anthem for the world wide Crop Hunger Walk project. Her song, "Raise Your Voice" is featured in their video. I've included a link in the side margin of my blog. I hope that it will encourage you to support projects in your community that contribute to the effort to overcome hunger.

I was thrilled when KC asked me if she could use our home to host a couples' wedding shower with three other couples. I turned them loose in the china cabinets, and I was impressed with the choices that they made to create their buffet table. They offered their guests a variety of hors d'oeuvres and a selection of wines and beers. I want to share their table with you this week. I'll keep my comments relatively short and sweet...well, short and sweet for me anyway.
The invitations featured browns and acid green. They decided to continue with the same colors for their shower decor. The tablecloth, featuring a wide chocolate brown border, is by Russia House, found on eBay, of course.
Mercury glass candlesticks and Pottery Barn Mercury Glass Bottles kept the design somewhat contemporary.
Green and white hydrangeas added a sophisticated touch and were a quick and easy choice for a luxurious centerpiece...especially for mommies of young children.
They chose the base of one of my Mottahedeh tureens to present their florals...
KC dove into my scarf drawer and found the brown lace lovely to drape around the base of the bowl. Tip: Repeating color elements in a variety of spots on your table, will help to create a cohesive design.
You've seen the apple green mercury glass votives many times...little bitty work horses.
You saw the apple green Mercury glass containers with the same white Hydrangeas on my St. Pat's table (the week before the shower) and on my Easter table (the week after the shower). Minimal money well spent.
The table elements...Many were Nana's, and a few were wedding gifts...
Nana's silver shell, dolphin footed compotes. The pair held sour cream and brown sugar for drunk strawberries.
Dorothy Thorpe crystal tray...it belonged to Nana.
Barker-Ellis...a wedding gift.
The cake plate belongs to my friend Marsha. She keeps forgetting to pick it up and take it home.
Nana's cake knife and cake separator.
Nana's oval crystal bowl...I don't know the maker.
Barker-Ellis galley tray...a wedding gift.
Nana's crystal and silver condiment server.
Nana's ivory handled silver fish server...tonight it held roasted asparagus.
Nana's Dorothy Thorpe crystal salad bowl.
Nana's Dorothy Thorpe crystal tray. I love the quirky handles.
The ladies chose to use the Royal Doulton RD199 Luncheon Plates. They used the Francis I and Grande Renaissance silver forks by Reed & Barton.
The hostesses shared the task of preparing food for the shower...
Chess squares, a.k.a. Neiman Marcus Squares...so good.
Rum Balls & Drunk Strawberries...
Cake Balls...
I think that the hostesses have this entertaining thing down pat! Their guests were thrilled, and their party was a total success. I told KC that she was welcome to entertain in our home any time. She's already scheduled two more showers in the next few months! I couldn't be happier.

You can check out KC's music at www.kcclifford.com, on iTunes, and on YouTube. I hope that you'll take a few minutes and give her a listen. You'll also enjoy reading back through her blog on this site. The girl can really write! Her latest CD is called "The Tag Hollow Sessions"" It is available on iTunes or through her website. I hope that you'll give her music a chance. I know that I have zero objectivity where she is concerned, but I think that you'll fall in love with her music and her!
Beautiful table! Love the gorgeous hydrangeas, and the spread of food is a tribute to these young women. They've learned the art of entertaining from the master!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this lovely party. ~ Sarah
A lovely table as always and so elegant. It is always nice to use your nice things! The girls did a great job! And like you I reuse flowers from one event to the next! And often plan events closet together so that I can. Love fresh flowers but sometimes they can be dear!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are passing this wonderful tradition down to your daughter! What a beautiful job these ladies did and I always enjoy seeing your Nana's lovely pieces. Wow - she did have exquisite taste!! When my youngest granddaughter was visiting at Easter, she mentioned that she had not done a tablescape recently and wanted to return soon, so that she could. I was so thrilled and cannot wait to see what she does. Maybe, there will be a few of the next generations who appreciate these beautiful treasures!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful table. Everything is perfect all the lovely dishes, trays and silverware.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this post.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful table at your house. Love the use of silver and the centerpiece of green and white. Has an elegant look; I always look forward to seeing what you have to share with us for the week.
ReplyDeleteBoy, you can tell she is related to YOU! What a GORGEOUS table full of delicious foods...please tell KC I said "BRAVO" to all who worked on it...including you, Mom.
ReplyDeleteSo many treasured antiques...* big sigh*
Now I had already figured out that KC would probably have good taste passed on to her by her Mother. Her friends also have that gene, and their choices were just fabulous!!! What a beautiful table and BEAUTIFUL food!!! I don't know what Drunk Strawberries are exactly, but you had me at "Drunk"!!! :-) I LOVE the centerpiece! It's beautiful! I have those mercury glass bucket votives in silver and wish I would have invested in the green, too. They're so pretty and really bring pizzazz in little shots across the table. All of Nana's things are incredibly beautiful, and I am always so proud of you for taking such good care and taking such pride in it all. She knew just who to trust for that!
ReplyDeleteThe layered linens are really pretty, too. They bring a lot of character and depth to the overall look!
Wonderful song, such a beautiful voice! Love all your pretties, the table is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
Did you have a hard time holding back your ideas on what the gals should use? I LOVE what they came up with...everything from the colour scheme to the items and dishes looks fantastic! The brown with the green and mercury glass is such a striking combo. The pics with the food are the icing on the cake - would have loved to have been there!

ReplyDeleteTruly a beautiful and inviting table.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a STUNNING table! You can't go wrong when you mix silver and crystal, but each individual piece was gorgeous. I loved the condiment server and the silver tray to name a few (because they were all wonderful). Thanks for sharing this gorgeous buffet tablescape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfectly executed tablescape! I lingered through this post for a very long time.

Once again you are sharing a beautiful table! All that food made me hungry! I agree with everyone here that it is great that your girls have a desire to make a beautiful table as well! I had to smile when we got an invite to dinner at our baby girls first married dinner invite and she made her table look special for us. It melted my heart!

ReplyDeleteOh wow, this is one of the most beautiful tablescapes I have ever seen and all the food is just as beautifully displayed as the tablescape. Exquisite. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHi cherry Kay,
ReplyDeleteWow, your daughter has learned a lot from you!~ Isn't it so exciting to watch them grow up and come into their own. She did a lovely job and loved the colors, so now, and loved the mix of modern and vintage.
All the food looks delightful, and bet she had a lot of fun doing it.
Neat that she is hosting others events as well, she must like doing that like her MOM.
Blessings, Nellie

ReplyDeleteI have to say that I got tears in my eyes when I read that you had the opportunity to meet Walt Disney. How wonderful. What a fun story. That is one you never forget. I am such a Disneyland/World fan. I never got to go as a kid, and only went once I was at college. I can't get enough and we speed walk everywhere. WE come home soooo exhausted!
What a lovely shower! Everything looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo kind of you to offer your home!

What a beautiful buffet table! So elegant. I am currently planning my son's senior art show reception, and your table comes in at a perfect time for inspiration. Those cake balls, are beautiful and they seem like they would be an easy treat to transport. The art show is at his college, so we are going to have to pack and bring everything!
