Blue on Blue, 2013

"First things first...We are truly blessed to have the means to set a pretty table and invite our friends to join us for good food and fellowship. I am mindful that many are not so fortunate. My daughter has a passion for the work of the Food Bank. As a singer-songwriter, she has written and recorded a song that is the anthem for the world wide Crop Hunger Walk project. Her song, "Raise Your Voice" is featured in their video. I've included a link in the side margin of my blog. I hope that it will encourage you to support projects in your community that contribute to the effort to overcome hunger.

Some friends called to say that they were stopping by Joey's Cafe to pick up our favorite salad.  I shifted into high gear and pulled a table together for us.  Come on in...

I've been eager to play with this Ralph Lauren tablecloth, a recent find on eBay.  Today was the day...

I grabbed an antique blue and white import jardiniere and headed out into the back yard.  I cut an abundance of blooms from a Photinia Red Tip, plopped them in my container, and BAM...I had a centerpiece.  I pulled a quartet of Dollar Tree ceramic birds to add a finishing touch.

The Maryland China Company Minuet Charger provided a nicer contrast, along with the L'Argent Sohpia flatware.

Our salads were presented on the Spode Blue Room Collection Byron Groups dinner plate.  I love the medium blues of this design...so pretty.  Tip:  I've never bought any of the sets from the Blue Room Collection, but certain of the patterns within the groups really appeal to me.  I've been able to pick up inexpensive individual plates on eBay to build sets of my favorite designs.

Keeping it simple, I chose two goblets that could be popped in the dishwasher...the Libby Cobalt goblet from Dollar Tree and the blue quilted Whitehall Glass tumblers.

...One of our Nana's vintage Madeira napkins, caught in the Coalport Countryware napkin rings.

All done...

Traveling my direction?  Let me know, and I'll save you a seat at the table!

Wednesday is the 65th edition of Cuisine Kathleen's meme, "Let's Dish". I'm excited to be a charter member.  Pop over (pun intended for the Chef Supreme Kathleen) and join the fun!

Lots of great ideas to be gathered when you visit Yvonne at Stone Gable for Tutorials, Tips, & Tidbits.  Don't waste another moment...hurry on over!

Thank you, yet again, to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for hosting her magical meme,  "Tablescape Thursday."   Hop on over and check out the myriad of marvelous tablescape designs, after 10:00 AM on Thursdays.  You'll be glad that you made the trip...it's a wonderful adventure.

June is here, and the Tablescaper has invited us to join her for "Where Do You Keep It All?. I'm always a bit surprised when I participate in this one. I could only trust this to a group of fellow dishalolics.  How about you?  With thankfulness for her dedication and efforts, I'm joining the multi-talented Tablescaper for her fabulous meme  Seasonal Sunday.  Hope to see you there!

You can check out KC's music at www.kcclifford.com, on iTunes, and on YouTube.  I hope that you'll take a few minutes and give her a listen.  You'll also enjoy reading back through her blog on this site.  The girl can really write!  Her latest CD is called "The Tag Hollow Sessions""  It is available on iTunes or through her website.  I hope that you'll give her music a chance.  I know that I have zero objectivity where she is concerned, but I think that you'll fall in love with her music and her!

  7. I didn't do a table this week, good intentions, bad planning! OMG, I didn't know DT had cobalt blue Libbey.. not here anyway, or are they older pieces? I love the spode pieces. I have a few, and I have four that need a new home, they are more chinoiserie style and in red that actually go with nothing. boo hiss. I was looking at my nandina blooms this morning too. I don't think I'd have enough for a table centerpiece though, lucky you. I love the new tablecloth. It's a very pretty piece. I really like this table. A lot. Stay safe and out of harm's way dear friend. xo marlis

  12. Oh wow, Cherry Kay, I'd love to join you at your table! I'd bring a salad and dessert any day. You sure know how to pull a table together in such style. The photinia made the prettiest centerpiece. I love that you shop the Dollar Tree, too.

  13. Cherry Kay, another beautiful table. You are a master at setting a table with short notice, and it's always a winner. Love the blue and white RL textile. I bought individual plates in Spode Blue Room at TJ and Marshalls years ago. I decided to buy a plate of each pattern to have a mix for a buffet party I was hosting. Had my cousins in Houston shopping for me too. ;-)
Thanks for sharing this pretty setting!n~ Sarah

  14. Hey, I'd run around setting the table any day if folks would bring the food!! LOL

Your impromptu tablescape is just so very inviting. I think my DD has that same flatware. I must borrow it sometime. *wink*

I have some of the Whitehall Glass tumblers in clear but I can't find them at the moment. I honestly don't know where I put them. Wish I had a WALL OF CABINETS like yours, then I wouldn't have this problem!!!

    Hugs,
    Rett

  16. I love that you have a group of friends that know that if they give you a holler that they're picking up food that you'll be setting the table. They are so lucky - as are you!

Love your table. I have that cloth, but don't think I've ever posted a tablescape with it. With all of your magnificent glassware, I'm surprised that some of it hails from Dollar Tree.Beautiful table.

Oh, if we only lived closer! the trouble we could get into! I do believe we're having a bit of fun doing some ebay shopping together across the internet lines!
