"First things first...We are truly blessed to have the means to set a pretty table and invite our friends to join us for good food and fellowship. I am mindful that many are not so fortunate. My daughter has a passion for the work of the Food Bank. As a singer-songwriter, she has written and recorded a song that is the anthem for the world wide Crop Hunger Walk project. Her song, "Raise Your Voice" is featured in their video. I've included a link in the side margin of my blog. I hope that it will encourage you to support projects in your community that contribute to the effort to overcome hunger.
The day after the Wild Game Dinner, I dived head first into final preparations for my 50th High School Reunion. Three of us from the steering committee decided to host a pre-party for a group of our old friends prior to the opening Friday night event. We invited our guests for supper...pool side. Our party was held in my friend Becky's lovely home. What speaks to summer better than a pool side party? This is my entry for Cuisine Kathleen's Summer Whimsy Challenge.
Our friends are starting to arrive...so excited to reconnect!
The black tole containers are available this season at Hobby Lobby. Tip: They needed liners; they do not hold water effectively.
We set up a bar for beer, wine, and soft drinks. You've seen my black and white toile tablecloths in the past.
We used the pergola for our food.
We had fun with the centerpiece...
We used a small pump to make sure our fish had ample air. After the party, they took up permanent residence in the Koi pond...
The food was well received. Because we were hosting a good number of men, we offered an assortment of meat items...fresh shrimp, honey glazed ham, barbecue beef, meat balls, and dollar buns. A large salad, artichoke dips, a colorful veggie tray, and an abundance of desserts finished the menu.
Supper for 60...
Everyone was thrilled to have a spot of time to reconnect. Some of us hadn't seen each other for the entire 50 years. The hostesses had a great time, too. We decided that when we gather again in 5 years, we'll do the party again. It was a glorious, event packed weekend...a perfect way to start the summer!
This week I'm joining:
Let's Dish with Cuisine Kathleen
I very much like your setting. The link photo caught my attention because it reminds me of Mackenzie Childs with the black, white and bright orange. I'll bet your 50th was fun, certainly your pre-party get-together. Visiting from Kathleen's. :)

Those tablecloths are fabulous! You do well on ebay, I never have much luck! We just had our 50th too, but I went to an all girls Academy, so no men! :) It looks like a wonderful party, so festive! Food looks wonderful. Did anyone go in the pool?
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in the Summer Whimsy Party!

ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in the Summer Whimsy Party!
Wow, Cherry Kay! What a beautiful set up! I love your friend's backyard, especially that cool water feature!
ReplyDeleteThe fish in the centerpiece was an excellent and very whimsical idea! I'm sure everyone got a super duper kick out of that! The fish were probably freaked out ("Oh, no! They're meat eaters! Hope we're not next on the menu!!!), but I'm sure they'll get over it! :-)
I remember the striped tablecloths and how much I wanted them! I really love stripes. They just look great in so many different settings. And the stripes played nicely with the toile. That's an added bonus.
The food all looks scrumptious to the nth degree! I know the men appreciated all the meat! I would have been sitting right alongside them gloriously reveling in that carnivore's delight!!!
Beautiful!
What fun...I just celebrated my 50th year out of high school, too...where did all that time go?
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, Cherry Kay, you are energetic! I've never been to a reunion of my high school - I've never been to a reunion of any sort. I think I'd like to try it!
ReplyDeleteCherry Kay, You are such a great hostess, sharing your beautiful home and yard with so many people. I love the fish in the centerpiece!! We had one once when my son was very little. He insisted that it was floating belly up because it was sleeping. Well, we all know the truth! Back to your beautiful setting...you certainly took the orange and black and made it attractive with the flowers and toile and it even worked in this summery setting. It must have been so nice to see classmates from long ago. I have not kept in contact with my high school friends but think of several of them often. Linda
ReplyDeleteOh how nice! You did a great job- those tableclothes look fabulous! I didn't even see the little fish at first- that was a cute idea! I think you did a great job in incorporating the school's colors. A little bit is better than too much! Looks like you had some great food too!
ReplyDeleteNothing says summer like a pool side party! Your classmates were treated to a lovely party with the addition of the black and white with touches of orange, The tablecloths brought everything together, The fish are a clever idea! Have a great idea!

What a great party, Cherry Kay. Those black and white striped tablecloths are so elegant yet summery. Congrats on your fiftieth. Mine was last year.
ReplyDeleteYou set up a gorgeous place for friends to reconnect!! The black and white striped table clothes look striking, a nice addition and mix with your toile tableclothes. Love that fish bowl vase!! Your guests had to have appreciated all your wonderful work!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time! I love the black and white cloths you found. Great shopping! You girls know how to throw a party! Thanks for sharing the details. '-)
ReplyDeleteI know you must have had a great time. It is always fun to see old friends and get reunited. I know you worked hard and sure everyone appreciated your hospitality. I agree with everyone else that tablecloths are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteCathy <;)
Cherry Kay, this gave me some great ideas! Benny is having his 50th next year and we have started the planning phase. I do love how it was all laid out! The black and white looked amazing with the pops of orange. I can tell everyone had a wonderful time. xo marlis
ReplyDeleteEverything looks beautiful and the food delicious! Love the centerpiece, especially the gold fish! Great idea!

Wow CK,
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome party. Just loving the ambiance.
On July 20th, I will renew my vow on our 25th Silver wedding anniversary and it was a pool wedding party.
Keep on looking, LoL*
Njoy the week ahead.
Hugs...
Hello CK,
ReplyDeleteWell, orange & black are Halloween-ie & they are the same colors as Princeton University. But black & white are always chic & you & the other hostesses have managed to use the color combo without looking like a circus (or Halloween). Good choice to leave out the orange!, Regards, Robin
